It’s an unabashedly sweet movie that doesn’t deconstruct its tropes. It just executes them beautifully...To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Netflix’s new teen romantic comedy, is enchanting. It is what the kids call wholesome, pure, and Soft.

Hope is the way we really survive the hellscape that is high school, not abject cruelty. This is what the team that made To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before understands; there is no renewable resource more powerful than the burning optimism of a teenager, and sometimes all you have to do to create a hit is show that as plainly as possible.

It’s the kind of movie that reminds you why rom-coms exist in the first place, and why they can feel so essential. ...The effect is colorful and warm and homey, making you want to nestle into the world and make it your own.
